Unseen Talents

>

I always have this thought running in my mind, why is our government training our rowers, cyclists and hammer throwers by keeping them in air conditioned room and hydraulic training to send them to the Olympics and Asiad. There are so many fishermen who can row better than the rowers and swing the hammer as they use to throw the net which is lot heavier than the hammer. If we can give a kind of a stipend to them and train them surely we can give a great competition in the international sports.

During this semester holidays I was called by my friend to play cricket in the beach and the other in a corporation ground. When I went there I just witnessed something great. The ground and the beach were full youngsters with bat and ball. They just don bother about anything but only about playing cricket. They are not professional, they dont have the proper skill to exhibit but they have the interest to play the game. These people should be viewed seriously by the board of cricket in India and they should be given some opportunity to play professional cricket if they possess talent.

Hey ya...if a fisher man is asked, he will say its an art to use those nets and you know what? they will treat it equal to god since it yeilds them some meal.camparable to some sports as you said

But its doubtfull that,do all players who have been taken under different quotas really treat their sports to that status of god...may be there are some few...

You just get carried away looking at the performances of the international players. There are so many local players look at their game as their god. I have seen sportsmen worshiping his shoes.

i always give my duerespect to those wonderful worshiping sportsmenship filled players yar..

Professional sport requires a completely skill set. You can never equate a trained Olympic rower to even a very skilled seasoned fisherman.

But the SAI sure has talent scouts at the local levels to spot young talent in every sport and start prepping them to be professional sportsmen (at least such a system is in place on paper).

And about the second half of your post. __ if only cricketing skills were all you needed to play professional cricket.. a street cricketer can never be a pro player, at least not untill he is properly groomed.

my 2 cents

@guru: Cricketers Dhoni and Kapil are also street cricketers mate. Why to waste our Indian talent.

Paper work should become reality.

Cheers!!!!!

Well, there are always quite a lot of talent around us...but inorder to be among the best, like being in Olympics or so, what is needed is discipline of mind and a fine focus of the strength...of course one can find a raw talent and then hone it to the best...but not all the raw strength can become the best!

@Ela: You are absolutely right. When we see the standard of the National Camp surely any amatuer can turn in to a professional.
